Marshes Light Marina

  1. Each boat in tournament competition will receive an entry number and shall display that number in a manner which will make it easily identifiable during competition hours.
  2. Tournament officials will monitor VHF 68 during competition hours. VHF 16 is to be kept open for emergency calls and Coast Guard assistance. Tournament boats wishing to contact other boats will call on VHF 68 then switch to an open working ship to ship channel (6-69-70-71-72).
  3. The eligible species for competition purposes are king mackerel,Tuna(Yellow, Blue,Black,and Bigeye, dolphin and wahoo.
  4. Tournament competition limited to motorized boats only.
  5. There shall be no more than eight (8) lines fished from any boat.
  6. This is a sporting event. All fish must be taken on a rod and reel. No boat lines or electric reels will be allowed. Downriggers will be permitted as fishing line carriers only.
  7. There is no restriction as to the number of people allowed aboard each boat during competition hours.
  8. All boats and anglers must meet both USCG and State of North Carolina safety and regulatory requirements in order to qualify for competition.
  9. The tournament committee reserves the right to inspect any boat entered in competition, including an on board inspection.
  10. The tournament committee reserves the right to refuse an entry into the tournament.
  11. The tournament committee reserves the right to place a tournament representative on any entrant's boat during competition for the purpose of observation.
  12. A captain or fishing team may enter one boat only in the Marshes Light Super Slam Fishing Tournament. You can only enter the tournament once.
  13. Information entered on the registration form is official and any changes must be initialed by participant.

Marshes Light Marina

The organization meeting for Captains will be held on Thursday, October 13, at 5:00 p.m. at Marshes Light Marina, tournament headquarters. It is strongly advised that all captains attend this meeting, as any rule changes and necessary clarifications will be announced. Entry numbers will also be given out at this time.


Marshes Light Marina
  1. Choice of Friday or Saturday, October 14th or 15th, competition hours are 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
  2. All boats must start from a NC inlet and return to Oregon or Hatteras inlets.
  3. No Check-Out.
  4. Two or more boats congregating during competition hours shall be disqualified from competition that particular day. Emergency exceptions to this rule must be approved by radio contact with the tournament committee in advance.
  5. All boats must observe no-wake zones or be disqualified from competition that particular day.
  6. Each boat is solely responsible for their own weather decisions.
  7. No recreational (none tournament) fishing allowed on Friday October 14,2011.

Marshes Light Marina
  1. The weigh-in station will be at Marshes Light Marina. The check-in point will be from the Washington Baum Bridge. The check-in point will be manned one hour prior to close of competition. Entrants wishing to weigh fish for competition must proceed to the weigh-in stations line immediately after off-loading. Only those boats wishing to weigh-in fish need to check-in.Those wishing to weigh-in fish earlier in the day should check-in at the weigh station after 11:00 am on Friday or Saturday.
  2. It is the sole responsibility of the crew aboard each boat to off-load and present its catch for weighing. Crews should have their fish ready for off-loading. A crew member must accompany fish to the weigh station.
  3. All fish must be brought to the tournament headquarters by boats catching same under its own power. Fish cannot be transported over land.
  4. A signed, sworn affidavit will be required of each individual who places a fish in competition for tournament prizes.
  5. A marine biologist will be present during the tournament for the purpose of advising the Weight and Fish Certification Committee. Each fish presented for prize competition will undergo scrutiny by the marine biologist.
  6. All fish submitted for weigh-in must be in fresh, edible condition and caught that tournament day. No mutilated fish will be accepted for weigh-in. Mutilation is defined as any damage which may impair the fish's fighting ability. The Weight and Fish Certification Committee shall immediately notify an angler of any questionable fish submitted for weigh-in. This committee shall immediately determine eligibility. The angler may then petition the Protest Committee for a final ruling. No frozen fish will be accepted for weigh-in under any circumstances. No fish with stomach contents other than its natural food will be accepted for weigh-in.
  7. All protests concerning the determination of tournament prize winners shall be made to the tournament Protest Committee and shall be accompanied by $200 cash. All protests shall be made no later than one hour after the last fish has been weighed. In the event that a protest is upheld by the Protest Committee, the $200 cash deposit will be returned. In the event that the protest is not upheld, the $200 cash deposit will become the property of the Marshes Light Super Slam Fishing Tournament. All decisions made by the Protest Committee shall be final.
  8. In the event that two or more fish of the same species are the same weight, the winner shall be determined by the earliest check-in time.
  9. All prize winners may be subject to a polygraph test. Polygraph tests may be administered randomly among the top 10 places. It is the responsibility of the Captain and crew to make themselves available the hour following the closing of the scales on Saturday. Awarding of prizes will be contingent on passing the polygraph test.
  10. The winning fish and all fish entered become the exclusive property of the tournament committee.

Marshes Light Marina

Competition day will be Friday, 14thand Saturday 15th October 2011. In the event the Marshes Light Super Slam Fishing Tournament is canceled due to weather, the tournament will be rescheduled for Sunday, October 16st. If tournament dates (October 14,15th 16th) are canceled by its governing board prior or on the day of the competition, 75% of all entry fees will be refunded. In the event that questions or situations arise, the directors shall determine all solutions, and their decisions shall be final. No participant aggrieved by any ruling of the Rules Committee or any tournament official shall recover from Marshes Light Mackerel Tournament, its officers, directors, sponsors, owners and employees in any forum a sum exceeding his registration fee.

It is the policy of the Marshes Light Super Slam Fishing Tournament to promote conservation of the species in every way possible. To that end, contestants in the Marshes Light Super Slam Fishing Tournament are required to abide by all state and federal regulations and by the three-fish-per-angler bag limit imposed by the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council. The Marshes Light Super Slam Fishing Tournament strongly encourages the release of those fish that are not to be entered in competition. The release of fish should be in keeping with the best conservation methods to insure continued life. At the request of the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, the Marshes Light Super Slam Fishing Tournament will accept no more than THREE fish from any boat on any tournament day. All legal size and creel limits apply.
